Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that serves as my guide for personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at Cedar Trails Senior Living in Freeburg, Illinois, the start of a new year is a time to reset, refocus, and prepare for both challenges and opportunities. My chosen word acts as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am truly amazed by how much my Word of the Year influenced my journey.
My Word of the Year for 2024 was kindness. This word guided my decisions, strengthened relationships, and fostered both personal and professional growth. When residents or families expressed concerns or frustrations, I prioritized responding with kindness. I listened attentively, helped them navigate their worries, and worked collaboratively to find solutions that brought them peace of mind.
Kindness became a daily practice, creating happiness, improving well-being, and enhancing each day—for both myself and those around me. It reminded me of the transformative power of compassion in leadership, relationships, and community care.
The lessons I learned from embracing kindness will guide my goals for 2025. This foundation has inspired my next Word of the Year, reflecting a shift toward intentionality and concentrated effort.
For 2025, my Word of the Year is focus. This word represents my commitment to concentrating energy on what matters most, avoiding distractions, and creating meaningful progress in both personal and professional life. Focus will allow me to approach each day with clarity and purpose, ensuring that I dedicate my attention to the tasks, relationships, and goals in front of me.
By embracing focus, I aim to foster growth, achieve greater alignment with my intentions, and inspire my team to do the same. This word will guide my journey in leadership, relationships, and self-improvement throughout the year.
